ABOUT US
High-Quality Specialty Care That Remains Accessible
Treating pets—especially in complex or critical situations—requires deep expertise, advanced diagnostics, specialised equipment, and precise surgical skill.
As veterinary medicine has evolved over the past decade, so have the operational models behind many specialty hospitals.
With growth, consolidation, and changing business structures across the industry, the cost of delivering high-end care has risen significantly. As a result, essential procedures can sometimes feel out of reach for families who want the very best for their pets.
Specialists enter this field with a shared purpose: to provide solutions, guidance, and compassionate care. However, rising costs throughout the industry have at times made specialist services seem less accessible, even when they are exactly what a patient needs. Many primary veterinarians and pet owners have expressed the wish for more options that balance excellence with affordability.
Why Hong Kong Veterinary Specialty Services Was Created
HKVSS was established to ensure that specialist-level veterinary care remains within reach—for the pets who need it and for the professionals dedicated to delivering it.
Our Mission
To provide the highest standard of specialist expertise at a fair and accessible cost.
We believe that sustainable, high-quality veterinary medicine is best supported through collaboration, transparency, and clinical independence. By keeping our services reasonably priced and focused on medical excellence, we aim to complement the work of both primary veterinarians and specialty hospitals.
Our goal is to provide advanced care solutions that are accessible to families while supporting veterinary teams with a trusted, specialised partner they can rely on.
Our credo
-
Excellence
-
Affordability
-

Veterinary specialists are veterinarians who have advanced training in various veterinary medical and surgical disciplines and are Board-certified. This is the highest level of expertise recognized in the veterinary community.
What is a Specialist?

Although the term might be abusively used among the profession, with many derivatives such as “surgery consultant”, or “referral-only clinician”, veterinary specialists are not commonly found in Hong Kong. Only a handful of recognised specialists are found in each discipline. Surgery, medicine, diagnostic imaging or cardiology among others, and the majority restrict their activity to larger multidisciplinary hospitals. Our company is the first to provide a Specialty peripatetic service to bring our expertise to your family veterinarian.
To become Board-certified, a veterinarian must have completed, at a minimum, five years of veterinary college, a one year internship or equivalent, and three years in a residency program that meets the standards of a recognized specialty college or board. There are additional training and caseload requirements that must be met during the residency and finally, to become a Diplomate of its college, the veterinarian must pass a series of rigorous examinations and get continuous training to be re-certified every 5 years throughout its career. Being a specialist is a lifetime commitment.

Specialists work to advance the veterinary profession
Along with seeing cases, veterinary specialists are leading the way for the veterinary community in research and clinical trials to pioneer new diagnostic and treatment options for animals.
At the forefront of research breakthroughs, specialists serve as conduits to improve the veterinary community’s quality of veterinary medicine by teaching veterinary students, speaking at continuing education events, publishing peer reviewed articles, research abstracts and review articles, as well as consulting with general practitioners one-on-one for individual case management. Veterinary specialists are highly trained veterinarians that are an important member of your animal’s health care team.
Veterinary specialists offer expertise that ensures the best possible outcome for the animal and animal owner.
