Orthopaedic conditions

Click on any of conditions in the list to get a pet-owner friendly review on the causes, clinical signs, treatment options (surgical or not) as well as the expected complications or prognosis. These forms are the result of a daily routine of reviewing the current and past literature available on a topic. Treatments progress, new solutions are reported on a daily basis and meaningful scientific publications are sometime lacking on certain topics. These summaries should not replace the opinion of your veterinarian!

As from end of 2025, this what is said on...

Equivalent to ACL injury in humans- Common condition with severe repercussions.

Common condition found in many pets among small breeds... Too often underestimated, initially compensated for... and typically very debilitating as osteoarthritis kicks in... Fix early!

More common in medium to large breeds... head bobbing- transient forelimb lameness when puppy. Again largely underdiagnosed. Blind course with anti-inflammatory drugs often does the trick and takes away the best chance to significantly improve the quality of life with arthroscopy.

High-rise falls, simple jump from the sofa or mighty escalators... very small bones... yet a severe impact on the function! Smallest implants on the shelf.

More common in toy breeds... after a simple jump from the sofa... in cats, more commonly seen after a high-rise fall. Requires precise stabilisation  and optimal aftercare.

Frequent conditions, either following trauma in larger breeds, or following as small jump, in toy breeds. Prompt treatment is warranted to get the best functional outcome...
